Permanent exhibition “The Story of the Manor Era”
The unique, immersive permanent exhibition running through the manor house of Anija Manor is a gateway to the manor era. Here you can experience manor life as it once was – as if the gentry had just risen from the dinner table and set off for a walk. You hear the sounds of manor life and sense the atmosphere of bygone eras. The stewards of the manor appear from the mists of time. Suddenly you may find yourself a guest of the manor household – part of a historical scene.
You can take a guide along to the exhibition – a historical character from the manor era. Among other things, the exhibition presents stories of Anija Manor, its nobility and peasants, based on the research of art historian Juhan Maiste. Few manors can offer a historical overview of such quality.
Plan about an hour for your visit, as there is plenty to see on two floors. The permanent exhibition can be visited on your own, but with a guide you will notice more details and hear exciting stories you would not otherwise learn.
The visitor programme “The Story of the Manor Era” has been awarded the EHE label. EHE (Genuine and Interesting Estonia) is an ecotourism quality label that recognises nature-friendly and environmentally sustainable tourism products that offer authentic experiences and value cultural heritage.
